Default Seminar style?

Has anyone here been to any seminar under the new exam structure? Could you give a brief discription on the style of the seminar you have been to?

It will be hard for someone to say this is good and that's bad. I rather hear about the style and make a decision myself.

Ya, can anyone supply some more detail on how some of these seminars are taught. I went to one last sitting with Batten and Malher. I thought Battens style with writing out the notes by hand was great. Very easy to follow and understand. Malher was a complete waste of a couple of day. He just flipped though a condensed version of his notes. Didn't get anything out of that and will not go to his course C seminar. Any other suggestions on:

Broverman
BPP guys (Gauger, Hosking)
Daniel
Kellison

Dr. Daniel lectures until lunch. After lunch he works through past exam problems that relate to the morning lecture. The last hour or so he will prompt you to work through other past exam problems relating to that material, and work them out with a delay. It's still a long day, but the schedule makes it a little more bearable. Even if you knew nothing about the concepts in the beginning, you at least know the basics before you're done.

Does this imply that you do not need to go over the material prior to the seminar?

I had the same experience with Dr. Daniel. I agree that you come out of it knowing the basics but unfortunately, if you're going into the seminar without being prepared beforehand, you're basically screwed for the test unless the seminar is happening like now. However, I think Dr. Daniel's style might not help students who are looking for that extra something to push them over the edge, as opposed to teaching them the basics.

I took a Course 4 seminar with Professor Broverman in NYC and really liked his style. He goes through a ton of exam-style questions which will be good for the computation questions. I basically got messed up by the theoretical questions in this past Course C sitting and I'm not sure how you will learn the material other than sheer determination in going through all the texts!

I know the Broverman Seminars for Exam M and the old Exam 2 were great...so I am going to his seminar for Exam C for sure. I also heard he was great for course 1.

Even if I had to pay with my own money I would do it for sure..no questions!!

Whether my (Daniel's) seminars are effective or not can best be judged, I think, by the pass rates. If you go to www.actuarialseminars.com and then to the pages on C (or M), you'll find my pass rates for Exam 4 now C (and 3 now M). They are not up yet for May since I cannot yet know who passed; as soon as I know, I'll update that data on my website.

I would have to disagree...I think Dr. Daniel does give you tricks and tidbits that you can't get from studying alone. I took his Exam 3 seminar and his Exan 4 PRE-view seminar. Not sure if there's time left, but I would recommend the PRE-view seminar. I read through as much of the material as I could prior to taking it and then studied like crazy afterwards. I found that things made a lot more sense and I didn't waste a lot of time trying to figure things out. Passed on the first try...which is saying alot...because let's just say I usually struggle more than that.
