Question How do Virginians view West Virginia's secession?

Given that West Virginia is a dump, are Virginians these days glad they seceded? Like good riddance, thank goodness our tax dollars aren't going over there?

As a follow up question, do West Virginians these days regret having left, given that their state is a dump?

My favorite is the church across the street from the adult video store just north of Charleston. I ctm every time I drive past it (which is like...twice).

CS, have you been there? What information are you using to conclude that it is a dump?

There’s a podcast by Malcolm gladwell with a law professor arguing that West Va secession was unconstitutional by interpretation and due to lack of a comma in the amendment allowing it.

Also, TX could easily split their state into five and it would be easy enough for all five new states to be blue with one remaining red state, because of how they gerrymandered the districts

Yes I've been there. It's also one of the poorest states in the country and the center of the opioid crisis.

Opioid 'crisis'

"This vase is ugly."
"Let's get rid of it by smashing it with a hammer."
"Ok."
"The ground is covered with shards of glass."
"Let's smash each one so we can't see them."
"Ok."
"Now I am tracking a sand-like substance all over when I walk around."
"Let's hose down the entire floor area."
"Ok."
"Now everything is wet and likely to get moldy or water damaged in due time."
"Let's start a fire in a trash can so the heat dries up the water."
"Ok."
"Now the walls and ceiling are covered in soot."
"Let's paint them with spray paint."
"Ok."
"Now the walls are ugly."
"Let's purchase a vase, with the few dollars we have after buying spray paint."
"Ok."
"This vase is ugly."

Given that the split happened before anybody alive today was born, I doubt they think about it much differently than how Georgians think about Alabama, or Illinoisans think about Indiana. Like, it's just a different state that has different views, etc, and almost everybody thinks that their state is the best. I mean, they only thing about VA/WV that is different from IN/IL is that the name is derivative. Indiana and Illinois were both part of the same territory at one point (also before anybody alive today was born), now they aren't.
