True, but you're just looking for information, and lots of actuaries like to spew that stuff.
To whom should I send the resume, to whom can I talk, etc. On, off, done.

It is a risk though. I have a coworker (younger guy, but fairly senior) who gets particularly annoyed even when colleagues call him rather than emailing him to set up a call. I don't mind this at all, but there are a lot people who it will irk.

Hiring managers should get used to people contacting them wanting to get hired. In all sorts of ways.

I prefer e-mails, too, if only to formulate my responses in the most careful of ways. I'm not a hiring manager, though, not even involved in the process.

I suggest e-mailing, asking to call or asking whom to contact.

The recruiter and I are within 1 hour time zones.
The bolded underlined part sounds like the worst aspect to me.

The rest I think is basically to help her filter out positions that she thinks would be a waste of her time to try to work on for you and set up phone interviews, etc.

The mid-point of the range in the DWS salary survey might be fairly high for rural areas in flyover country. Companies 120 miles from a stoplight usually don't shell out high pay, for example. (hyperbole used in that example, as those companies probably don't exist to hire actuarial specimens)

True, but then a lot of people don't want to live there. Source: U.S. Census Data.

Does she look like Lucille 2 from Arrested Development? I don't have a second guess but I think I know her.

I sort of want to know who this distasteful recruiter is, because:
1) I'm naturally curious, and
2) I tend to get along with people that most people say are jerks or a-holes. It just seemed to happen many many times so far in my time working. I find it interesting to see different kinds of personalities in action, and sometimes it's good to be the person that can work with the person that nobody else can. (Unless you can, but you hate it, b/c then you get stuck with it a lot. That hasn't been the case yet for me though.)

Do you live in Tri-State area? I don't know if recruiter operates out of the Tri-State.
