Default FSA Exam Track: CFE vs Group Health

I am starting to think about what FSA track I want to pursue. I work for a health insurance company. The obvious FSA track is the Group Health track. However, I find the ERM/CFE track interesting (https://www.soa.org/education/exam-req/edu-fsa-req.aspx).

Does anyone have any experience with Health actuaries going down this track? From people I've talked to, I get the impression that this track would be a lot harder than the health track, but it may put me into a position to lead the company's ERM 10 years down the road. I've also been told that after you get your FSA, no one really cares what you got it in, so maybe it's not worth the extra effort. Thoughts?

My current strategy is to take the ERM Module first, to see if I really do like it. If I do like it, then I can take the ERM exam before having to commit to a track.

I work for a health company and I believe students pursuing FSA are "strongly encouraged" to pursue the Group Health track. Before you decide on the ERM/CRE route, you might want to at least find out if your company cares, or will continue to offer exam support.

Take the gh track. No one will know or care what track you got your fsa in. You can study whatever you want after you have your fsa.

If you like it, do it.

I'll bet you sixty six billion AO buck that this exam won't be the deciding factor for anything other than getting AO.

Just wondering - have you considered Group Health + CERA?

Ya, I've put the feelers out. No one here has done anything except for Health (we're small enough that no one has even tried for CERA here, but one person who intereviewed recently was told that if he wanted his CERA he would be supported). I've told my boss that I'm not trying to commit to doing that track, or that I'm looking from a committment from them rigth now. I'm just curious if I would be able to fill a future need in the company.

I'm still trying to decide if I like it . Luckily I can start one module/exam at a time to see.

Yes I have. We have one FSA here who went that route (got the CERA before he came here). If I went down this different track it would be to set myself apart and have even more specialized knowledge. If I do go down this route though, I will start with just the module and exam needed for CERA. If I like those a lot then I can push to go for the other exams on that track, and if not then I can just have my CERA and do the health track.

I still have one more exam for my ASA (modules are pretty much done). So I'm just trying to plan ahead for next year.
